San Diego Surge (2-1-1) at San Diego Rebellion (2-2)
Saturday, May 25th 6:00 P.M. PT
Balboa Stadium (San Diego, CA)
Major playoff implications will be at stake when these inner-city rivals match up for the second time this season. While this will be considered a road game for the Surge, they will not have to leave town as they visit the hosting Rebellion at Balboa Stadium, located on the campus of San Diego High School in Downtown San Diego.
The game will be streamed on the Rebellion's Facebook Live and WNFC.tv.
Following a 42-14 victory in the 2019 season-opener, the Surge are 1-0 against the Rebellion.
Last Time Out
Looking to redeem a 22-10 loss the prior week, the Surge battled the visiting Seattle Majestics to a 20-20 tie as time expired in overtime. For the Surge, it was the second overtime in team history, but the first to take place in during the regular season. It was also the first game in both team and league history to result in a tie.
Notching her third 100-yard rushing performance of the season, Deana Guidry recorded 172 on 23 carries while adding two touchdowns to her team-leading total. Melanie Quijano scored the first touchdown of the game on a 5-yard run, while contributing with an interception and two tackles on defense. Mercedes Tyler put up four tackles (2 for loss), a sack, and a fumble recovery.
Scouting the Rebellion
Following an 0-2 start to the season, the San Diego Rebellion have put together two striaght wins. Their last outing resulted in a 13-6 road victory over the Los Angeles Bobcats, a team that defeated them 20-13 in week two.
San Diego's roster features seven former Surge players: QB/LB Knengi Martin (7 TDs), DB/WR Katie Ott (2 INTs), DE Crystal Stokes (3.5 sacks last week), LB Katrina Walter, WR Celina Graves, OL Betty Suzuki, and WR Lanika Manning.
The final game of the regular-season takes place on Saturday, June 1st when the Surge host the first-year Denver Bandits.
