WNFC Pacific Conference Playoffs
San Diego Surge (4-1-1) vs. Seattle Majestics (4-1-1)
Thursday, June 13th 4:00 p.m. PT
San Bernardino, CA (San Bernardino Valley College)
The journey to the WNFC IX Cup Championship in Denver will begin this Thursday with the Surge facing the Majestics for the third time this season. The winner will play the Utah Falconz or Los Angeles Bobcats in the Pacific Conference Championship Game the following Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. PT.
Series History
Surge leads 3-1-1 (3-0 in Post Season)
Going into their May 4th matchup, the Surge held a 3-0 advantage over Seattle, but the Majestics broke the streak after pulling off a 22-10 win at home. The following week, the teams met again in San Diego, where they fought to a 20-20 tie as time expired in overtime. For both teams and the WNFC, it was the first-ever game to result in a tie.
Last Time Out
The Surge ended their 2019 regular-season schedule with a 70-27 victory over the visiting Denver Bandits. Adriana Gutierrez rushed for 96 yards and found the end zone three times on 12 carries. Rookie quarterback Rachel Bell threw the first two touchdown passes of her career (8-yard to Melissa Strother, 15-yard to Deana Guidry). After returning the opening kickoff for an 80-yard score, Guidry added a rushing and receiving touchdown to her team-leading total.
Ironwomen
One week after Melanie Quijano (possibly) became the first player in Surge history to record an offensive and defensive touchdown in the same game during a win over the San Diego Rebellion, Jazzmon Stovall matched her feat with a 6-yard touchdown run on offense, followed by a 36-yard pick-six on defense to help the Surge defeat Denver.
Throughout her career, Melissa Strother has proven to be in factor in every aspects of the game. Against Denver, Strother became the first player in team history to record a field goal, interception, and touchdown catch in one outing. She had a similar performance in 2014, where she intercepted a pass and followed it up with a 16-yard touchdown reception on the ensuing drive, helping the Surge earn a 64-0 regular season win over the Central Cal War Angels.
